Fit for Life week

The Royal Borough is holding a ‘Fit for Life week’, with all activities being free for the first time from Saturday 23 January to Sunday 31 January 2016.

The week is a three-year project aimed at increasing participation in sport among the residents of The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

As part of the Fit for Life project taster sessions of various sporting activities are being provided to promote clubs and leisure providers in the borough while allowing residents to try different sporting and physical activities during the week.

The Fit for Life project is part funded by Sport England through the Community Sports Activation Fund, where funds are awarded based on the active people survey.

Jatinder Singh Rakhra, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Fit for Life activator, said: “We hope that residents will be able to find a activity they enjoy doing so they can continue this long term and take part in their one session of 30 minutes of sports and physical activity a week. For the clubs we would like to see them recruit new members. The project aims to increase its figures in the next active people surveys report and the Fit for Life week is a great way to do this.

“The marketing and campaigning of the event has been very successful and the previous three promotional weeks have seen sports clubs and leisure providers attract new members, so we hope this week will be as effective-if not more.”

Over the week local sports clubs and leisure providers across the borough are inviting the residents to try out their sporting activities. There will be a variety of sports sessions on offer such as, touch rugby, yoga, Zumba, wheelchair basketball, nordic walking and walking football.

Free NHS health checks will also be available for people aged 40-74 without a pre-existing condition as part of the initiative.
